Resources can be utilised to fix most of global problems: El Salvador president

For the first time in human history, “our civilisations have achieved three benchmarks that were impossible to imagine a couple of decades ago”: globalisation, the Internet and the abundance of production that covers almost every field, said El Salvador President Nayib Bukele.
He made the observation while delivering the concluding remarks at Doha Forum 2019 yesterday, stressing that these could be utilised to fix most of the main global problems. 
However, the misuse and unfair distribution of these have resulted in many cases of the situation worsening in different parts of the world, he noted.
Bukele said, “We produce food, medication and many other products more than we can really consume but still people in many countries, especially those in conflict zones, suffer from hunger and illnesses and millions of people do not have access to adequate foods and medication.”
He explained that wealth is currently at an all-time high worldwide and there is enough material wealth to stop climate change and conflicts but the situation is still getting worse in various regions.
Similarly, Internet connectivity is growing fast across the world and people are using “more and more sophisticated smartphones that could do more than just connect people to address every detail of their daily lives”. It is becoming an interconnected world with the potential for “many uses or abuses”, he added.
Further, globalisation has both good and bad implications, the president said.
He said while the transfer of knowledge and communications has become easier, it has contributed to ruining some economies and worsened the lives of certain categories of people as they lost their jobs and livelihoods due to the easy flow of goods. 
Bukele said, “We have three things that enable us to do everything good but we need the political will to create the proper formula to utilise them for the good of everybody fairly and adequately”. He stressed that “it is our responsibility to go for this for the welfare of generations and the people of the world in a new era”.
Further, he said, “Now that we are fully interconnected, produce more than we could ever consume and have more sophisticated technology to improve our lives, there are no more excuses or time to waste”.
“It is time to work out solutions with such three key ingredients to address the issues that had been spoiled through the inadequate employment of these and the lack of will to improve people’s lives,” he added.
