In a recognition to the efforts by Qatar to combat corruption, HE the Speaker of Shura Council Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud was Tuesday elected as Global Organisation of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) Chair 2019-2021. He was unanimously selected to the post after voting was held during the seventh GOPAC conference that came to an end Tuesday.

The Speaker, while delivering the closing address, said the election has come as an international confirmation for the efforts being taken up by Qatar and His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to fight corruption.
Al-Mahmoud, who announced that he will jointly work with all parliamentarians to achieve the goals and objectives of GOPAC, said a number of initiatives and programmes will be carried to improve the functions of the organisation. “Plans will be chalked out to improve the works,” he said and thanked parliamentarians for pinning hope in him and Qatar in the fight against corruption.
The speaker, who noted that the chairmanship puts alot of responsibility on him, sought help and support from all members to discharge his duties.
“GOPAC deserves all kind of support as it stands for fighting corruption globally and achieving sustainable development for future generations. The organisation’s initiatives assume significance in the present world that’s witnessing changes,” he said.
He thanked the delegates for there presence and said more steps will be initiated to beat corruption in the eighth conference.
