Scores of Lebanese anti-government protesters yesterday threw garbage outside the houses of politicians in the northern port city of Tripoli to show their dismay at their perceived failure in doing their jobs.
Since mid-October, huge rallies have taken place across the country,
with demonstrators from various religious groups accusing the political class of mismanagement and corruption.
The demonstrations led premier Saad Hariri to resign and left Lebanon in economic and political turmoil, seen as the worst crisis since the 1975-1990 civil war.
“We want all of you to resign,” chanted the protesters near the house of lawmaker Faisal Karami. The chants prompted his guards to throw stones at the protesters, leaving three of them injured.
Lebanese army intervened and separated protesters and guards.
It is not the first time protesters have thrown trash bags outside the houses of Tripoli politicians.
Meanwhile, France will host an international conference on Lebanon on Dec 11, France’s foreign ministry said, adding that the meeting aimed to push Beirut to quickly create a government that could restore the economic situation in the
country.
