Qatargas has been certified to ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety) standard for the first time.
This is a landmark achievement as Qatargas is one of a very few oil and gas companies in the region to achieve certification to this standard.
In addition, Qatargas also been successfully recertified in compliance with ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environment) and ISO 28000 (Security) standards.
The certificates were handed over at a ceremony held recently at the company’s headquarters in Doha by Ajay Sharma, British ambassador to Khalid al-Hemaidi, chief health, safety, environment & quality (HSEQ) officer, Qatargas.
Also present on the occasion were Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa al-Thani, Qatargas chief executive officer, members of the Qatargas management leadership team, and representatives from the certification bodies.
On the achievement, Sheikh Khalid said, “This achievement demonstrates our commitment to the company’s Direction Statement, which actively promotes the effective management of Safety, Health, Security and Environmental aspects of our operations.”
Al-Hemaidi stated, “We are very proud of our Qatargas Management System (QGMS) processes. The receipt of these certifications is a clear recognition of the hard work, dedication, and continual efforts of the leadership team and employees to achieve our operational objectives, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of every person working in our company and ensuring that we are actively monitoring and reducing our impact on the environment and the community around us”.
The process of recertification involved a thorough assessment of the Company’s management systems and compliance to the requirements of the ISO standards. The audits explored the implementation of QGMS, taking a holistic view from leadership, monitoring, measurement, as well as evidence of successful implementation of continual improvement processes.
The audits, performed by certification bodies Intertek and Lloyds Register in mid-September 2019, demonstrated that the QGMS is effective and the processes are delivering. Intertek’s Maturity Model rated the QGMS as outstanding when benchmarked against others within the industry.
“This bears testament to the premier HSEQ System implemented at Qatargas and its commitment to go beyond compliance in a continuous drive for operational excellence,” a company statement said.
This positive evaluation explicitly emphasised the high degree of commitment demonstrated by all concerned parties, the straightforward and clear formulation of all relevant documentation, and the very close correlation between the described processes and practical implementation.
