HE the President of Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) Dr Saleh Mohamed Salem al-Nabit stressed that Qatar National Day represents an important occasion to enhance the national spirit, a valuable opportunity to renew loyalty and covenant to the leadership, sharpen the determination, and redouble efforts to support the process of development and comprehensive revival in the country.
This, he said, is to continue the path taken by the Founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohamed bin Thani, who in his reign led Qatar to become a recognised entity that has its status and presence on the world map.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), HE al-Nabit congratulated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, and the Qatari people on the occasion of National Day. He noted the high national spirit and the participation of all citizens and residents in this precious occasion, sensing their responsibility towards the homeland and leadership, has embodied a great cohesion.
HE al-Nabit pointed out that Qatar has witnessed a steady rise in living standards accompanied by important social developments embodied in the establishment of an advanced system of social protection taking into account the interests of citizens, in addition to providing high-quality health and education services, which reflected positively on the country’s ranking in the Human Development Index (HDI) 2018, where it ranked 35th globally and second in the Arab world.
In the field of strengthening the infrastructure, he pointed out that Qatar is aware of the importance of this sector through the expansion of investments necessary to improve its services and to anticipate its future prospects through strengthening co-ordination between government agencies related to the implementation of the 2022 FIFA World Cup projects and the projects of the metro, Hamad International Airport, Hamad Port, modern roads, and water, electricity and sanitation networks.
Moreover, he pointed to the significant improvement in the pace of macroeconomic performance in Qatar through the growth rate of real GDP, with the continued role of the non-hydrocarbon sector in achieving a major part in this growth, particularly in the services and manufacturing sectors.
HE al-Nabit pointed to the prestigious position occupied by Qatar in the international arena, thanks to its foreign policy characterised by clarity, realism, political balance, and sobriety, which enabled it to play an active and influential role at the regional and international levels.
He further explained that one year after the blockade, the International Competitiveness Report issued by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in 2018 indicates that Qatar’s economy ranked fifth globally among 63 countries, mostly developed countries, in the axis of economic performance, which reflects the strong performance and its ability to overcome the crisis.
Furthermore, HE al-Nabit noted the state’s orientation towards the Shura Council elections, considering it a qualitative leap in the march of democracy that puts Qatar among the developed countries.
