The Indian Sports Centre (ISC), which is the apex body for the Indian community in Qatar for sports working under the patronage of the Indian embassy, organised a cycle rally to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The event took place on the walkway of Doha Corniche, near Sheraton Doha, on Friday.
The rally featuring 150 cyclists was flagged off by Indian ambassador P Kumaran at 7:30am, and concluded at the Orry statue - covering a distance of approximately 2km.
Members of the Indian community, including Capt Kapil Kaushik, Rajesh Kamble, Dhiman, Rajinder Bhagath (from the embassy), Sharaf P Hameed (ISC acting president), Azim Abbas (Indian Business and Professionals Council president), P N Baburaj (Indian Community Benevolent Forum president), Dr R Seetharaman (Doha Bank CEO) and M S Bukhari (Satco), president of other apex bodies, representatives of event sponsors City Exchange and Ria Money Transfer and supporting sponsor Rotana restaurant, and MC members of ISC were present at the rally.
A public function was organised on conclusion of the rally.
In his address, Kumaran shared the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi and also stressed the importance of using bicycles wherever possible as this would help reduce pollution and make the environment better for human beings.
The event co-ordinator, Ashique Ahmed, delivered the vote of thanks.
