The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) announced the list of Qatari artists who will be participating in Ektashif – a new initiative to visit India for a 10-day art trip.
The participants will subsequently produce four to five pieces inspired by their visit. The artworks are to be displayed in an exhibition at MIA in January 2020.The chosen artists are: Khalifa al-Obaidly, Abeer al-Kuwari, Manar Alawadhi, Iman al-Saad, Maryam al-Majed, Haifaa al-Khuzaei and Aisha al-Muhannadi.
The initiative is sponsored as part of the Qatar India Year of Culture by Seashore Qatar – a Qatari-owned company and one of the largest multi-disciplined business enterprises in the country. The trip will include visits to sites of historic interest such as the Qutub Minar and the Red Fort in Delhi, Amber Palace and Hawa Mahal in Jaipur, and the Red Fort and Taj Mahal in Agra.
Additionally, each day will include a workshop session whereby participants will discover the intricate traditional arts of India including marble inlay, known as parchin kari, block printing, jewellery making, carpet weaving and more.
