The Thani Bin Abdullah Bin Thani Al-Thani Humanitarian Fund has announced the signing of three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and three agreements with three major international humanitarian organisations to provide emergency humanitarian support to several African countries, worth $27mn.
In a statement yesterday, the Fund said that HE Dr Sheikh Khalid bin Thani bin Abdullah al-Thani, representative of the Fund, signed the agreements and MoUs with Save the Children, Action Against Hunger, Oxfam organizations.
The statement added that the agreements and MoUs will serve nearly 3mn beneficiaries in several African countries, including Somalia and DR Congo.
The Fund noted that this financial support will be used to cover humanitarian and relief assistance to those in need in these countries, especially in the areas of providing food, water, medicine, shelter and health services.
The statement pointed out that Save the Children will receive $18.7mn for projects in food, water, health and shelter for more than 2.5mn beneficiaries.
It added that Action Against Hunger will get $7mn to provide food to 500,000 beneficiaries in the Horn of Africa (Somalia, Tanzania, Kenya), while Oxfam will receive $1.2mn to provide water to 150,000 beneficiaries in DR Congo.
The Fund also signed an MoU with CARE, an international humanitarian agency, to enhance cooperation in the field of humanitarian support.
