Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) alumni and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) doctors underwent a comprehensive training programme to boost their leadership and mentoring skills.
A total of 16 physicians completed the internationally recognised ILM Level 5 Certificate in Leadership and Management Programme, delivered over the course of seven days at HBKU Student Centre.
The participants took workshops on subjects such as management and leadership styles, performance management, decision-making, and presentation and communication skills. The training, delivered by UK firm Leadership Focus, also featured modules on managing change, emotional intelligence, influencing and assertiveness skills, and coaching and mentoring skills.
This was the second cohort of 16 WCM-Q alumni and HMC physicians to complete the course, with another group of 16 to complete the training in December so that a total of 48 doctors working in Qatar will have been equipped with enhanced leadership skills.
Dr Noora Mohamed A al-Hammadi, chairperson, radiology oncology department at Hamad General Hospital said, “I was so happy to do this course with my colleagues. What I liked most was that there was a good mixture between senior and junior leaders. As a senior leader, I valued being able to share some of my experiences and ideas with those who are just beginning to assume leadership roles, and to give them some confidence and courage. This mix is what really made the course an excellent experience for me.”
The course, co-ordinated jointly by WCM-Q’s office of alumni affairs and the office of the Chief Medical Officer at HMC, concluded with a closing ceremony and certificate presentation attended by Alia Taub, chief executive, Leadership Focus; Dr Abdulla al-Ansari, acting chief medical officer, HMC; and Dr Aksam Yassin, deputy chief medical officer for medical affairs, Medical Staff Office, HMC.
