Art enthusiasts and handicraft lovers across the country are expected to gather Saturday for the 2nd QatArt Open Exhibition, organised by the QatArt Handmade Community at the Hilton Hotel. As many as 55 artists and crafters are participating in the one-day exhibition, which runs from 10am to 3pm at the Nashira Ballroom and is guaranteed to be filled with attractive handmade products and gift items.
“The festive season is fast approaching and this event offers a timely opportunity to shop for unique gift items for friends and family. There is something available for everyone,” QatArt board member Swapna Namboodiri told 'Gulf Times'.

Visitors may choose from the many handmade keepsakes available at the exhibition.

Many items on display at the exhibition are not found in local stores

She said visitors to the event can browse through the beautiful handiworks of crafters and artists from the Qatari and expatriate communities, ranging from various styles of painting and pottery, as well as home decor. Also, other special handmade silver stone and pearl encrusted, as well as semi-precious jewellery are available, including hand-printed textiles, personalised gift items, stylish handbags and leather goods, Namboodiri said.
“People can also choose from other items, such as handmade soaps, toys for babies and children, keepsakes, clothing for all ages, designer unstitched material, handmade greeting cards, calligraphy frames, and wooden and glass decor to name a few of the exciting merchandise not found in local stores,” Namboodiri said. Aside from the exhibition, QatArt is also conducting a series of workshops throughout the day, according to Namboodiri.
“After seeing all these handmade crafts, visitors can also participate in the different workshops on offer for both the young and the young at heart. ‘STEM Explorers’ are conducting two exciting workshops, including their ever popular slime station. We will also have a wood slice painting session and a heart banner making session, which is suitable for those who want to hang their favourite holiday photos.
“Henna tattoo and face painting are also available. Meanwhile, Hilton Hotel has set up an interesting snack menu for that day, as well as lunch buffet deals. Entry tickets are QR20 for 12+ and adults, QR10 for kids aged 4 to 12 years and all younger ones get a free entry. Visitors can look forward to finding wonderful gifts for their friends and loved ones with a very personal touch,” she said.
Qatart is a community of Qatar-based handmade makers of art, craft, and design, with a key principle that all products must be handmade and designed in Qatar. Among the group’s goals is to establish and grow a diverse arts and craft community that is a key player in the creative landscape of Qatar.
