Members of the Shura Council have praised the speech delivered by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani at the inauguration of the 48th ordinary session of the Shura Council, and its firm positions, directives and attitudes in order to achieve greater welfare for the Qatari people and everyone who lives on this land.

In statements following the inaugural session of the Council, the members of the Shura Council described the speech of His Highness the Amir as comprehensive in terms of local affairs and clear with regard to state's stances towards various regional and international issues based on clear and unwavering principles.

HE the Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Sulaiti said that His Highness the Amir's speech highlighted noble values and talked about the issues inside and outside the country, kept the Palestinian cause at the heart of Qatari policy, and stressed that the important principles and firm positions of Qatar will be maintained despite the unjust blockade.

He explained that the speech focused on the economic aspects and continued economic growth, especially the growth of the non-hydrocarbon sector, in order to enhance the country's move towards economic diversification and building a sustainable economy in line with the goals and objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.

Regarding the Shura Council elections, he said that the wise leadership has fulfilled its promise, and this is a constitutional entitlement, keeping pace with the progress Qatar is making at various levels. He pointed out that the Council will continue to play its role, until the elected Council is in place to continue the march.

HE Saqr bin Fahd al-Muraikhi, a member of the Council, said that the speech of His Highness the Amir was comprehensive and reflected a clear vision towards development issues at the local level and toward various international issues.

Al-Muraikhi whished the new session of the Council more achievements like the previous sessions to cope with the aspirations of the citizens and all who live on the land of Qatar through the completion of laws and legislation that are referred to the Council.

He pointed out that the Council during the previous session made many achievements in the study of laws and legislation, as well as strengthening its regional and international presence through hosting conferences and meetings, at the top of which was the hosting of the 140th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and its related meetings, and its participation in the 141st session of the UPI in Belgrade as well as other participations in the Gulf, Arab and international events, which promote continuous communication and coordination with various countries and regions of the world.

For her part, HE Dr Aisha al-Mannai, a member of the Shura Council, affirmed that His Highness the Amir's speech was in line with the aspirations and addresses various local, regional and international issues.

She expressed pride in the achievements of the State in various fields, which His Highness the Amir referred to in his address to the Council, and which confirms the success of Qatar in overcoming the blockade and its negative effects and facing various challenges with will, determination and success that enhanced the position of Qatar on the international map.

Regarding the Shura elections, she said that His Highness the Amir pointed out in his speech to completing the constitutional requirements for electing the Shura Council members and exercising its legislative powers under the permanent constitution of Qatar. “This is a new sign of determination, will and fulfillment of promises and guaranteeing the rights of citizens at all levels,” she added.

She said that the speech of His Highness the Amir included a generous gesture to the residents in Qatar as they are partners in the building and development witnessed by the country.

For her part, HE Dr Hind al-Muftah, a member of the Shura Council, said that His Highness the Amir’s speech draws a roadmap to move forward towards further achievements in various economic, political, social and legislative fields.

She added that the speech expressed support for the Shura Council by emphasizing the preparation for the elections of the Council in order to strengthen the democratic process in the country and prepare the Qatari society in all its spectrum to enter this important historical stage. (QNA)
