Students from various schools in Qatar who visited the Qatar IT Conference and Exhibition (Qitcom 2019), which concluded Friday, got the opportunity to learn basic coding through a number of games and activities. They were organised by Edutech, a company which provides hands-on and technology-based learning solutions to educational institutions in Qatar.
“We focus specifically on teaching and giving students and young visitors idea about coding and artificial intelligence (AI), here at Qitcom,” Edutech business manager Ali Iqbal told Gulf Times on the sidelines of the exhibition.
Edutech invited young children to take part in a number of interactive activities at its booth such as block coding digital artwork.
The coding maze arena activity, for example, gave participants the chance to learn to navigate, control and interact with the robots through coding, which got a positive response from the visitors.
“AI, this is the future, we give young students an overview about how they are going to use these technology in real life,” said Iqbal, adding that Edutech’s activities also aim to create awareness on the importance of ICT in education and other sectors of society.
Iqbal also underlined the efforts of Qatar in promoting and investing in education, as part of its National Vision 2030. The country, he stressed, is in the right direction and “know what exactly the future is.”
Several exhibitors and participants at Qitcom 2019 also hosted similar interactive activities, as well as coding competitions, aimed at enhancing creativity of young children, as well as teach coding in a simple and fun way.
The latest edition of Qitcom, under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, featured more than 100 speakers from around 30 countries, more than 400 local and international exhibitors, around 300 innovators and entrepreneurs, and 29 local and international sponsors.
