Qatar’s fencing team won a silver medal at the 6th GCC Women’s Games in Kuwait yesterday. The quartet of Ghareeb Dahi Hammad, Amira Abu Jobara, Lina al-Buainain and Wadha al-Abdullah finished runner-up after losing to UAE in the gold medal match.
They had earlier beaten Bahrain to qualify for the final. This was Qatar’s third medal in fencing after Jobara and Wadha had claimed bronze in the individual events on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Nasra Mahmoud won the bronze medal in the 10m pistol. The Qatari shooter finished third behind Bahrain’s gold medal winner Sarah al-Dosari and runner-up Hanan Arhama at the Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad Shooting Complex. Today, in the skeet competition Qatar’s Fatima al-Merikhi, Amal Rafi and Aisha al-Ansari will be in action.
In basketball, Qatar defeated Saudi Arabia 63-41 while Qatar handball team eased past Kuwait 38-12 on Monday. Today, the handball team will take on Oman in their second match. 
The ten-day Games is bringing together six GCC nations, who are competing in 11 events. 
Team Qatar delegation to the Games is chaired by Lolwa al-Marri, President of Qatar Women’s Sport Committee, accompanied by 132 athletes, administrators and technical staff members. Yesterday, al-Marri met with the players and congratulated them for their outstanding performance in the various competitions.
