Qatar University scored the highest points in the first Qatar Universities Arabic Debate League, hosted by the College of North Atlantic in Qatar (CAN-Q), and organised by QatarDebate, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.

The participating universities included QF partner universities, namely Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Georgetown University, Hamad bin Khalifa University, as well as Qatar University, Police College, and Doha Institute for Graduate Studies with a total of 49 debaters, represented in 16 teams.

The first league saw strong competition and the convergence of teams and speakers as well as the emergence of new distinguished debaters on the arena of local tournaments, where Qatar University got the highest points, followed by Hamad bin Khalifa University, and the best speakers of students are Mohamed Akram and Mustafa Mohamed from Qatar University, and Mohamed Khalid from the University Hamad bin Khalifa.

The teams participating in first Qatar Universities Arabic Debate League debated on the issues of "penalising doctors in case of unintentional errors", "prohibition of the use of military drones", and "considering societal rejection as a sufficient justification for censoring art".

Through this league, QatarDebate is seeking to spread the culture of debates by organizing periodicals and tournaments for schools and universities and to develop their dialogue and linguistic abilities, as well as the selection of issues characterized by objectivity, which enhances the link between what students study in the classroom and the cultural vocabulary around them.
