The United Nations has chosen HE the Attorney-General Dr Ali bin Fetais al-Marri to be a member of the Peace Advisory Board of the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in Geneva.
The attorney-general participated in the two-day meeting of the board at the UN headquarters in Geneva. The meeting discussed several topics related to the work of peacekeeping forces in various countries.
The Advisory Board provides technical and critical analysis of the peacekeeping activities around the world to ensure that the quality standards adopted in compliance with the UNITAR mandate and UN guidelines are respected and well-integrated.
The UN draws on the vast experience and knowledge of the Advisory Board members to support its peacekeeping staff.
The Advisory Board brings together highly experienced people, including special representative of the UN Secretary-General on violence against women in conflict and former Sierra Leone Minister of Foreign Affairs Zainab Bangura, Executive Director of Kofi Annan Foundation Alan Doss, and others.
The Council holds annual meetings to discuss the topics on its agenda. This was its first meeting following the structural adjustments and reforms of UNITAR and several UN specialized agencies.
