A militant was killed and two police officers wounded in an exchange of fire during a security raid in the Egyptian capital Cairo, the interior ministry said on Sunday.
Security forces raided a hideout in the eastern Cairo neighbourhood of al-Matariya, which is used to store weapons to launch "hostile attacks," the ministry said in a statement.
A shoot-out took place when the forces raided the hideout, leaving a "terrorist" dead and two officers from the central security sector wounded, it added. The forces seized firearms, large numbers of bullets, a rocket-propelled grenade and explosive materials, it added.
On Wednesday, the ministry said it had killed nine Hasm militants, including one of the group's leaders, in two raids in Cairo. Egypt last year began a nationwide security operation against "terrorists and criminal organizations."
The country has seen a surge in militant attacks since 2013 after the army deposed Mohammed Morsi, the first democratically elected but divisive Islamist president of Egypt. Hundreds of Egyptian security personnel have been killed in attacks, mostly claimed by Islamic State.
