Auto Class Cars, the authorised distributor of MG in Qatar, yesterday launched the all-new MG RX8 in a special event at MG showroom on Salwa road. The MG RX8 is the first-ever seven-seat SUV from the British-born automotive brand.
The event was attended by Ihab El Feky, chief operations officer, automotive at NBK Group; Hesham al-Sahn, general manager of Auto Class Cars; Karim Monir, head of marketing at Auto Class Cars; Tamer Abdallah,  MG brand manager in Qatar and executives from MG Motors.
Sheikh Faleh bin Nawaf al-Thani, operations director, auto, at Nasser bin Khaled Group said Auto Class Cars is proud to add the first-ever sporty seven-seat SUV to the collection of cars at its showroom, making Qatar one of the first markets in the region to launch this new vehicle.
“Auto Class Cars continues to launch all-new MG vehicles in collaboration with MG Motors. We are confident that the MG RX8 will attract the attention of car enthusiasts as it has a spacious cabin, durability and distinctive features that make the SUV the ideal choice for families and adventures at the same time,” he said.
Al-Sahn said Auto Class Cars has become the first company to launch their new vehicles in the Middle East. “The MG RX8 will be a landmark in Qatar based on its affordable price and features that reflect the ethos of MG,” he said. A robust and spacious SUV with the largest wheelbase in its segment, the new seven-seater introduces MG Motor to a new segment that it has previously never been present in. The MG RX8 is a fully equipped 4x4 with six different driving modes.
The strong truck chassis frame is capable of handling the toughest off-road terrains and is powered by an efficient 220hp 2.0-litre turbo engine. The spacious modular interior features adjustable rear seats and the largest third-row space in its segment.
An array of premium materials including wood grain and soft-touch trim give the RX8 a high-class feel. The modern features include a 10-inch touch screen in-car entertainment system, ventilated seats and wireless mobile device charging capabilities. Tom Lee, region director of SAIC Motor, the parent company of MG Motor, said that MG Motor is introducing a seven-seat SUV for the first time in its 95-year history. “With the all-new MG RX8, we are making a bold move into a segment we’ve never operated in before, and I am confident that this car will make an impact amongst its competitors.
The year 2019 sees us introduce three fantastic new products to the Middle East. With these new products, our Middle East model line-up is stronger and more appealing than ever.
The MG brand is growing in the region and across the globe. Our total global sales for the first half of 2019 has exceeded 120,000 units,” he said.
“As we enter the unchartered territory for the brand with the new RX8, I am confident that we can offer a robust, practical and well-equipped SUV in a segment which is remarkably popular here in the Middle East,” he added.
