The Qatar Businessmen Association (QBA) has held a meeting with a Cuban delegation to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations between Qatar and Cuba, it was announced yesterday.
In a statement, the association said QBA chairman HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani recently held a meeting with Cuba’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture Maury Hechavarria Bermudez and his accompanying delegation in the presence of Cuban ambassador Eumelio Rodriguez.
During the meeting, Sheikh Faisal stressed that Qatari businessmen are keen on taking advantage of the opportunities available in Cuba. He also said the QBA supports joint co-operation between both countries.
Sheikh Faisal also elaborated on the economic development taking place in Qatar, which, he said, led the private sector to seek investment opportunities in the local, regional, and global markets.
Bermudez lauded the QBA for hosting the meeting. He also shared the experience of the delegation’s visit to the Cuban Hospital in Qatar, which, according to Bermudez, has been very successful in addressing the needs of the Qatari health sector.
He also invited the QBA to visit Cuba to study potential investment opportunities, as well as to explore the northern Caribbean nation’s economic environment.
Also attending the meeting were QBA members Sheikh Faisal bin Fahd al-Thani, Maqbool Khalfan, Ihsan al-Khaimi, and Mazen el-Sabti, who represented Al Khayat Group.
The Cuban delegation, on the other hand, was composed of the director of North Africa and Middle East Department of Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, director of Commercial Affairs at the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Investments, vice president of Business Development of Cubanacan Holding (Ministry of Tourism), and the director of Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy and Mining.
The delegation also comprised representatives from Cuba’s Ministry of Construction and Real Estate Development as well as from industrial companies in the fields of organic technology and sugar industry.
