Qatar has renewed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s announcement of his intentions to annex Palestinian land to the occupation, stressing that the State of Palestine has and will continue to belong to the Palestinians despite attempts by some parties to change this fact by excessive force.
This came in a statement delivered by HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad al-Muraikhi at the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states, which was held at the headquarters of the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah, to discuss the announcement of the Israeli Prime Minister.
The minister said that the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC member states is taking place amid major crises facing many Islamic countries and increasing challenges that threaten very serious consequences for security and stability in the Middle East and the world.
He stressed that this obliges the OIC to play a greater role in promoting solidarity among its members through unified and coherent positions away from divisions and differences.
He added: “The Palestinian cause and the protection of our Islamic holy sites remain the pivotal issue for our organisation and its establishment in the aftermath of the burning of Al-Aqsa Mosque in 1969. There is no doubt that the dangers to the Palestinian cause impose a special responsibility on us to protect it from any attacks, to use all means provided by international law to stop such violations, and to demand the international community to assume its responsibilities towards protecting the Palestinian people and obtaining all their legitimate rights in accordance with the rules of international law, resolutions of international legitimacy and the Charter of the United Nations, which call for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of 1967, with Jerusalem as its capital.”
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs stressed that Qatar will remain keen to be an active and constructive member of the OIC and will continue to do its utmost to fulfil its common responsibilities and commitments at various national, regional and international levels on the issues of the organisation, especially the Palestinian cause.
“Qatar affirms that it will spare no effort in alleviating the suffering of our brothers in the State of Palestine,” he said calling on the international community to shoulder its legal and moral responsibilities to lift the unjust siege on Gaza Strip, stop the settlement activities on the occupied territories, and stop the malicious campaign to Judaize Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque and obliterate their Arab-Islamic identity.
