Sidra Medicine, a member of Qatar Foundation, and Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q), have signed a memorandum of understanding to promote scientific collaboration and research in line with Qatar’s national research priorities.
The MoU formalises an already close partnership, according to a press statement issued by Sidra Medicine.
Sidra Medicine has hired more than 40 CMU-Q graduates over the past four years to pursue careers in research, technology, business operations and laboratory medicine. The women’s and children’s healthcare organisation is one of the few in the world with an innovation-based approach to providing patient and family centered care, "which makes it a particularly good fit for CMU-Q graduates", the statement notes.
Michael Trick, dean of CMU-Q, said: “Sidra Medicine is an organisation that values both scientific rigour and innovative thinking. Graduates from each of CMU-Q’s four main programmes of study are now working at Sidra Medicine, helping shape how technological tools can improve patient care. We look forward to many more years of co-operation.”
Dr Robert Crone, acting CEO of Sidra Medicine, added: ““We are delighted to partner with Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar. The agreement provides a unique opportunity for CMU-Q students and alumni to gain real-world exposure to cutting edge areas in healthcare and medical research.
"Sidra Medicine is embarking on an important journey towards precision medicine. Our partnership will also provide the students with access to thought leaders and innovators within Sidra Medicine, who play an integral role in enhancing our mission to provide world-class patient care as well as to build Qatar’s scientific expertise and resources.”
CMU-Q and Sidra Medicine scientists and researchers will also share expertise in the fields of biological sciences, business administration, computational biology, computer science and information systems.
Through this collaboration, both parties will seek to promote research and raise health awareness through specialised conferences, seminars and workshops.
