The Ministry of Interior kicked off Wednesday a four-day awareness exhibition on the dangers of drugs. The exhibition being held at Mall of Qatar is attended by a number of entities in the country.
The exhibition, which was launched in the presence of HE the Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser al-Ali, who is also a member of the national committee for narcotics control, along with a number of representatives of the bodies concerned, came as part of the awareness-raising activities of the International Day Against Drug Abuse.
On the occasion, HE the Director of Public Security Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim al-Khulaifi, said that the world is celebrating International Day Against Drug Abuse to give a clear message of the importance of international efforts to combat drugs as cross-border crimes.
He stressed that the Ministry of Interior is making significant effort organising many awareness exhibitions in co-operation with a number of concerned institutes which have a message to the community members to raise awareness on the dangers of drugs and highlight their role in this field.

The Director of Public Security praised this co-operation to reduce the various risks and achieve security and stability in the country.
For his part, Chairman of General Authority of Customs Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Jamal said they are intensifying efforts through checking the entry and the exit of goods and passengers in order to strengthen the efforts of control and reduction of drugs in co-operation with the Ministry of Interior.
Assistant director of criminal search department Brigadier Mohamed Ibrahim al-Jufairi said that the participation of Qatar in this event is a reflection of the decision of the United Nations General Assembly to devote June 26 every year to celebrate international efforts in the fight against drugs.
He added that this is a global issue that almost no country is free of its damage, stressing the need to strengthen and unify international efforts to address this problem by all means.
Brigadier al-Jufairi also stressed that Qatar has spared no effort in supporting regional and international efforts to address the consequences of this phenomenon and has adopted a comprehensive, integrated and balanced approach consistent with international laws and regulations.
In the same context, he pointed to Qatar's keenness to establish permanent co-operation with all regional and international organisations and institutions through the exchange of relevant information, experiences and developments and updating laws and legislation related to the narcotics law, as well as forming permanent and national committees in this regard.
