The Ministry of Municipality and Environment has participated in the Tunis International Forum for Traffic Safety.
The Director of Al Shamal Municipality, Hamad Jumaa al-Mannai, gave a presentation about the ministry's projects within the scope of the national strategy for traffic safety in Qatar which are in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Ggoals (2015-2030) in terms of reducing road traffic fatalities, improving road safety, reducing congestion, adopting a transport demand management system and improving city planning and services.
Al-Mannai highlighted the ministry's role in terms of its various responsibilities and competencies as a key member of the National Committee for Traffic Safety in preparing a set of proposals and programmes in the form of ongoing projects in line with QNV 2030's vision and preparations for hosting the 2022 World Cup. 
He said it was planning a project and a set of laws and regulations as well as development strategies, awareness campaigns and guidance, besides the launch of the comprehensive urban plan, the partnership between the Ministry of Municipality and Environment and the National Bureau of Traffic Safety and work with ministries and other authorities in the State.
He noted that the comprehensive urban plan adopts an ideal model for sustainable urban life in the 21st century, an integrated transport system, the best cities for living, supporting growth and economic diversification, and improving the quality of life for all by promoting integrated urban development and coordination between the government sector and its components, and the private sector to serve these objectives.
He pointed to the partnership between GIS Centre in the Ministry of Municipality and Environment and the National Bureau of Traffic Safety, which provides a wide range of information, geographic maps and other planning and statistical data, which constitute a fundamental pillar in the implementation of projects and plans related to traffic safety and congestion management for all those involved in the implementation of the national strategy for traffic safety.
He also talked about a number of projects and awareness plans carried out by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment through its cadres directly or through participation with other bodies within the National Committee for Traffic Safety as well as the continuous development of building licences in line with the current and future planning of Qatar’s urban centres in order to achieve the best safety standards.
