Eight people were killed and eight others were injured when a bus flipped on an expressway in the Philippines during heavy rain, police said Saturday.
The bus was travelling along the North Luzon Expressway near the exit to the Manila suburban city of Valenzuela on Friday evening when it hit another vehicle, crossed to the other side of the road and flipped over.
"There was heavy rain and the bus driver said there was zero visibility at the time of the accident," said Valenzuela police chief Carlito Gaces. The bus was carrying more than 30 passengers at the time of the crash, he added.
Transport authorities have suspended the company that operates the bus while they investigate the accident, which worsened rush-hour traffic along the busy expressway on Friday night. More than 10,000 people die annually in road crashes in the Philippines, according to road safety activists.
