Educational activities at the Summer Entertainment City (SEC), particularly ‘Kids Driving School’, continue to attract many young visitors, teaching them the basics of driving and being safe.
“The response from the public has been positive; children learn about traffic rules and regulations, which they can be familiar with when they start to drive (at the right age),” QSports business development manager Aya Kassab told Gulf Times.
“Children are really happy and spending a lot of time inside the 'driving school', and they return (to play) again and enjoy,” she said, adding that "it is similar to the usual driving schools for adults".

The ‘Kids Driving School’, which is part of SEC at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre, enables children to have an actual feel of how it is to drive in the city and, more importantly, road safety. Supervised by professionals, the young drivers also need to follow legitimate street signs within the area. The driving school is among the numerous edutainment activities and games at the 29,000sqm facility at SEC.
It is organised by QSports, in partnership with the Qatar National Tourism Council, as part of the ‘Summer in Qatar' (SiQ) programme.

SEC features a variety of unique shows and roaming performances

SEC also featured Qatar TV kids show ‘Studio El Marah’ live on Friday, entertaining children aged between five and 12 years, from 4pm to 5pm, and will continue Saturday as well as every Friday and Saturday until July 13. The SiQ centrepiece and family-favourite has also hosted Indian cultural performances recently, giving a multi-cultural audience a unique and colourful ‘Punjabi dhol’ show on stage.
Kassab said they also increased the number of video and Virtual Reality games this year, providing both children and adults with an array of new experiences at SEC. It hosts the biggest indoor VR and gaming zone in the country.
“We also have games where children can choose the (professional) job they would like to do, which will help them get to know it through VR,” she noted, adding that they also have several educational activities, in collaboration with Megapolis, KidzMondo, E-blue Gaming, MiniPolis, Virtuosity, Angry Birds Park and Bounce.
Besides edutainment, many visitors have also experienced a unique golfing experience in SEC’s 12-par indoor golf course with “no sun and no heat”. According to Kassab, SEC is also collaborating with various local and international businesses to offer visitors with an array of food and non-food items such as abayas, cosmetics, home decors, carpets, furniture and spices, among others, in its souq area.
It is learnt that SEC has also become a platform for many small Qatari businesses to showcase and promote their products. “There will be a lot of surprises for our visitors from next week,” Kassab said.
