Some of the finest exponents Indian musical instruments are to entertain their audience with a mesmerising performance Friday at the Drama Theater (Hall No 16) of Katara Cultural Village.
The Jugalbandi concert, named Union of Strings and Wind, is organised by Beats and Tunes Events in cooperation with the Indian Embassy as part of the India-Qatar Year of Culture 2019.
While Grammy and Padmabhushan awardee Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt will play Mohan Veena, Shashank Subramanyam, who is a Grammy nominated musician, will play flute. The concert will also have Amita Dalal on Sitar, Patri Satish Kumar on Mridangam and Himanshu Mahant on Tabla.
A jugalbandi is a performance in Indian classical music, especially the Hindustani classical music, that features a duet of two solo musicians. Often, the musicians will play different instruments. The duet can be either vocal or instrumental.
Friday's programme at Katara will also mark the formal launch of Beats and Tunes Events.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Beats and Tunes Events chief coordinator Gopal Balasubramaniam said the concert is aimed at helping spectators enjoy one of the unique combinations of music.
He said the company has plans to organise an array of programmes that will help classical Indian music get a boost in Qatar.
As part of the future plans, a Hindustani music concert, led by Sanjeev Abayankar, will be held on September 27 and a Carnatic music concert led by Trichur Brothers will be held on November 15. The two events will be held in the Giwana Hall of Radisson Blu Hotel.
Also speaking at the press conference, Hemant Kumar Dwivedi, first secretary at Indian embassy, said the embassy is glad to extend cooperation towards initiatives like these which are meant to promote classical Indian music.
Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and Shashank Subramanyam were also present at the press briefing.
