India’s leading private airline IndiGo has extended “temporary suspension” of its direct services from Doha to Thiruvananthapuram and Ahmedabad until October 26.
The airline’s online bookings to Thiruvananthapuram and Ahmedabad non-stop are open, again from October 27.
On May 1, when IndiGo halted Thiruvananthapuram and Ahmedabad direct services from Doha, the Indian carrier had said these would resume on August 1.
An affected passenger said he was “offered either a full refund or rebooking” via another IndiGo destination in India that caters to Doha.
Many Qatar-based passengers were dismayed by the Indian carrier’s decision as it was “affecting their travel plans during the peak season.”
An Indian expatriate said he had to cancel his family’s travel plans to Thiruvananthapuram in mid-September due to IndiGo’s decision to extend suspension” of its direct services to the Kerala capital from Doha.
“Fares to the subcontinent, South India in particular, are exorbitant. I cannot think of buying tickets in another carrier now, he said.
On IndiGo’s suspension of direct services from Doha to Thiruvananthapuram and Ahmedabad, C Leekha, director (Corporate Communications) said, “It is on a temporary basis and, whilst we don’t have any firm date as yet, we do expect to be back in those markets at some point.”
