Al Meera Consumer Goods Company (QSC) opened its ‘MAAR’ convenient stores at Doha Metro Red Line South’s Msheireb and Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC) stations yesterday.
A sub-brand of Al Meera, ‘MAAR’ which literally translates ‘to the act of passing by’, forms part of the company’s ambitious expansion strategy aimed at providing exceptional services to consumers, particularly metro passengers, in Qatar.
“The opening of our convenient stores at DECC and Msheireb stations marks an important milestone towards strengthening partnership between Al Meera and Qatar Rail.
‘MAAR’ aims to bring metro commuters the ease and convenience of quick purchases to save them time and meet their needs, while on the go,” Al Meera’s deputy CEO Salah al-Hammadi said in a press statement.
“As the demand for convenient retail experiences increases, and the number of residents and communities in Qatar continues to grow, we always look for new ways to adapt our offering,” he added. “In line with this, partnering with Qatar Rail allows us to reach a new shopper segment through our neighbouring convenience store concept and bring our unique offering and great moments to an even wider customer base.”
Metro passengers can easily buy food and non-food items – from doughnuts, croissants, biscuits, sandwiches, coffee, tea and other drinks to a variety of ready-to-eat snacks, as well as mobile phone accessories, among others – at ‘MAAR’ stores as they head to various locations. Commuters can also buy Doha Metro travel cards at Al Meera branches. It is learnt that the company plans to open around 10 to 15 ‘MAAR’ stores at metro stations: six at the Red Line, four at the Green Line; and about four or five at the Gold Line.
According to Al Meera, ‘MAAR’ stores will offer a diverse range of high-quality products and essential goods at competitive prices, giving the commuting public a “new level of convenience for on-the-go shopping.” “We are pleased to see Al Meera opening its mini market at the metro stations as it is significant step in the integration of Qatar Rail’s services. We look forward to continuing the enhancement of the travel experience of public transport users across our network through this pioneering partnership,” said Qatar Rail’s strategies and business development chief Ajlan Eid al-Enazi.
Echoing al-Hammadi’s statement, he stressed that ‘MAAR’ will help daily commuters to meet not just their daily needs, but their hourly needs too. Metro users can stop by for a quick snack, emergency goods and much more, on the go”.
