The popularity of Doha Metro Red Line South as an effective means of transport is expected to boost businesses within its coverage area. Currently, passengers can use the metro from Al Wakrah to Al Qassar, passing through 13 stations.
Many residents living in the vicinity of the metro stations are using the service on a daily basis for commuting to work. Also, many are using the service for easy access to shopping malls, recreational areas or just getting around the city.
“If you are living at Al Wakrah or West Bay and want to go shopping taking the metro would save time and hassle of possible traffic delays. And the cost is also very reasonable,” pointed out John, an Australian resident.
Another resident who hails from New Zealand expected more metro lines to be introduced soon. He said the real estate market value of the areas around the stations would increase and attract more investors and developers.
“People would love to live and work in such areas as they do not have to worry about transportation. This limited introduction of the metro service has eased the lives of many people and improved the businesses of many commercial outlets alongside the stations,” he observed.
The metro currently does not run on Fridays and Saturdays to complete the necessary works to open more stations and links. Since the metro first launched its service in Doha early this month, passengers have been keen to use it for their daily commute and gave very positive reports about the service and its smooth operation.
Many residents have stopped using their own vehicles for going to places covered by the metro. Besides, the availability of metro has encouraged them to go more often to areas earlier considered “too far” by road. Several shopping outlets and business establishments along the Red Line have been receiving more customers since the launch of the metro, it is learnt.
