A workshop, ‘Colouring for Adults: Islamic Patterns’, was conducted yesterday at Qatar National Library, exploring new and creative ways to increase mindfulness and reflection this Ramadan.
The session focused on Islamic patterns, allowing participants to learn more about Islamic art.
Geometric patterns developed over the centuries are considered important in Islamic art and partly how it represents nature and objects by their spiritual qualities, not their physical and material qualities.
As part of the library’s theme of faith during May, the meditative activity encouraged participants to increase mindfulness and disconnect from stressful daily routines.
“Colouring gives me a sense of mental serenity and focus, and I was very happy by the choice of Islamic decorations as a theme. The event was an excellent opportunity to make new friendships with other like-minded people who share the same passion,” said Taehyun Kim, a participant who is keen in taking part in all colouring events organised at the library.
The library offers a full programme of events throughout May, which is focusing on the theme of faith.
