The Ministry of Transport and Communications announced the opening of the local submissions to compete in the World Summit Awards (WSA) 2019.
The ministry called on all companies, institutions and individuals in Qatar to participate in the competition and provide their best digital content applications to compete in the eight categories of the award and represent Qatar at the global level. It added that it will receive applications for the award on a local level until June 10.
WSA 2019 has eight categories which are government and citizen engagement, health and well-being, learning and education, environment and green energy, culture and tourism, smart settlements and urbanisation, business and commerce and inclusion and empowerment.
The ministry said that those wishing to participate in the national competition for WSA should send their information and details to the Ministry of Transport and Communications via e-mail.
The ministry added that a local jury committee is being formed by the WSA local expert Reem al-Mansoori, Undersecretary for Digital Society Development at the ministry. Al-Mansoori will assess the applications submitted, in order to select one applicant for each award category to represent Qatar on a global level, provided All submitted products must have been completed after Jan 1, 2017.
The products that can be submitted to the competition include any applications that offer innovative, high-quality digital content such as interactive web pages, applications, text-based and other products.
All participants have to abide by the rules and regulations mentioned in the UN Declaration on Human Rights.
Submissions therefore which encourage war, the exercise of violence, fraud, racism or discrimination will not be accepted and eliminated.
Similarly, submissions that violate international copyright provisions will be excluded.
The award authority is entitled to reject any submissions contrary to the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights.
All submissions have to be launched products. No drafts, prototypes, demonstrations or unfinished projects can be accepted.
WSA authority does not bear any legal consequences as a result.
Mohamed al-Jefairi, who represented Qatarin 2018,  won the award for the inclusion and empowerment category through his project “Deaf Pedia”, a universal 3D Data Base Sign Language.
