Qatar Charity (QC) and the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) have signed in Geneva, Switzerland, a strategic co-operation and partnership agreement to improve data collection, analysis and research on internal displacement worldwide.
The agreement was signed at the Centre’s headquarters in the presence of representatives from both sides.
Ali al-Ghamdi, Assistant Executive Chairman of Corporate Governance and Development, and Qatar Charity representative said: “We are honoured to stand alongside IDMC as active members of international efforts to reduce internal displacement and protect internally displaced persons through finding durable and sustainable solutions to ensure their stability in their communities upon their return.”
According to the agreement, Qatar Charity and IDMC will co-operate in training and capacity-building to improve and increase data collection and analysis of internally displaced persons from around the world from the Middle East to Asia.
This relationship will also pave the way for both parties to promote joint research projects and communication activities, for example translating IDMC publications into Arabic language.
“Millions of people are internally internally displaced by conflict, violence and disasters, yet we still have significant gaps in our knowledge and understanding of this phenomenon,” said the IDMC’s Director Alexandra Bilak and the centre’s representative at the signing ceremony.
She added that  such partnerships will enable IDMC to expand access to and provide protection and assistance to this group. - QNA
