A woman was injured Tuesday in a stabbing attack in the southern Swedish city of Helsingborg, police said.

‘Police have no motive yet, and were treating the incident as attempted murder,’ police spokesman Filip Annas told dpa.

An arrest warrant has been issued for a male suspect who was at large, he added.

According to local daily HD the woman was known to be active in the Jewish community in the city.

The attack occurred in the morning as the woman was on her way to work, the report said.

As part of their investigation, police have conducted door to door interviews and were analysing security camera footage.

Police have also stepped up their presence near at the city's Jewish centre, but Annas said he was not aware of any recent threats.

The Jewish community in nearby Malmo, Sweden's third largest city, said it had activated its crisis team.
