Esperance Sportive de Tunis and Club Athletique Bizertin will face off in the Tunisian Super Cup final at the Al Duhail Stadium today. This is the first time in 18 years that the one-off match is being held, with Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1 champions and the winners of the Tunisian Cup taking on each other.  Since its return in 1994, the one-off clash has been organised only three times in 1994, 1995 and 2001. The last title was won by Esperance in the 2001 as they beat Sportif de Hammam-Lif 3-1.
Esperance will be keen to bounce back from a disappointing defeat to Raja Casablanca of Morocco in the African Super Cup at the Al Duhail Stadium on Friday.
Like virtually all successful African clubs, Esperance rely on a mix of local and foreign talent to ensure a steady flow of titles. Apart from numerous Tunisian stars, coach Moine Chaabani can call on Cameroonian Franck Kom, Ivorian Fousseny Coulibaly, Algerian Youcef Belaili and Libyan Hamdou Elhouni.
Esperance travelled to Doha in good form after completing the group stage of their Champions League title defence unbeaten having won four matches and drawn two. But an agonising defeat to Raja Casablanca would have hurt them and will be keen to end their sojourn with a victory. Esperance Sportive de Tunis assistant coach Majdi Traore was hopeful today’s match will show the quality of Tunisian football.
“We want to paint a best picture of Tunisian football through this game. We look forward to winning the Super Cup after we lost in the African Super Cup. The loss was not easy on psychologically. We have asked the players to forget what happened on Friday and focus on the against Club Athletique Bizertin,” he said.
“The team is going through tough times because of the pressure of the matches. It’s important that we make some changes to the squad. We have to deal with the pressure and are hopeful of playing positively,” Traore added.
Montassar Louhichi coach of Club Athletique Bizertin said he was confident that his side can win the Tunisian Super Cup final.  “We have an great opportunity to win the title. Our only thinking is to win and I have great confidence in my players. We have played several preparatory games before we landed to Doha,” he said.
Louhichi praised the organisation and said Qatar has as the ideal infrastructure to host any matches.
