Qatar on Thursday took part in the 12th periodic meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Presidents of Legislative Councils (the Advisory Councils, Council of Representatives, the Federal National Council, and the National Assembly) held in Jeddah. HE the Advisory Council Speaker Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud represented Qatar in the one-day meeting.

The final communique of the meeting emphasised a number of decisions taken by the representatives regarding the topics on the meeting agenda, most importantly the recommendations of the symposium on 'Localisation of Jobs and Investment in Human Resources of the GCC States'. The Presidents of GCC Legislative Councils also extended thanks to the Kuwaiti National Assembly for hosting and organising the meeting.


HE the Advisory Council Speaker Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud represented Qatar in the one-day meeting.

The meeting also chose (The Role of Legislative Councils in Achieving the Goals of Sustainable Development) as the common GCC theme 2019, the implementation will be carried out by the Omani Shura Council. The communique mentioned that the representatives have been informed about the measures taken to strengthen relations with foreign parliaments and parliamentary associations, and gave directions to continue working on further strengthening existing relations.

It pointed that Presidents of GCC Legislative Councils have issued a condemnation statement on the US recognition of Israel's sovereignty over the Occupied Golan Heights. HE the Advisory Council Speaker Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud, then left Jeddah, where he was seen off by Secretary-General of the Saudi Shura Council Mohammed bin Dakhil al-Mutairi.

Earlier, Speaker al-Mahmoud arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, heading Qatar's delegation to the 12th periodic meeting of their Excellencies the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) President of Legislative Councils. Speaker al-Mahmoud and the accompanying delegation were welcomed upon arrival at Jeddah International Airport by Secretary-General of Saudi Shura Council Mohammed bin Dakhil al-Mutairi, Secretary-General of Kuwaiti National Assembly Allam al-Kandari and Secretary-General of Omani Shura Council Sheikh Ali bin Nasser al-Mahrooqi.

It is noteworthy that a delegation from Qatar's Advisory Council has participated in the 1th meeting of the GCC Committee of Parliamentary and foreign Relations Co-ordination, which was held on Tuesday in Jeddah. The meeting was aimed to prepare for Thursday's meeting of their Excellencies the GCC President of Legislative Councils.
