The Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (Qicca) has conducted a workshop for a group of legal researchers from the Legal and Judicial Studies Centre at the Ministry of Justice.

As many as 77 legal researchers attended two workshops held at the Qatar Chamber’s headquarters, and provided information on the chamber’s role and the services it offers to the private sector.

The workshop was attended by Qicca board member for International Relations Sheikh Dr Thani bin Ali al-Thani; director of Research and Studies Noora al-Awlan; Qicca assistant secretary-general Ibrahim Shahbeek; expert of Origin Affairs Ihab Rashad, and expert of Attestation and Membership Maher Sharief.

Sheikh Thani underscored Qicca’s interest to host workshops for legal researchers and specialists to brief them about the centre’s roles and mission. He also said the workshop provided an important opportunity for researches to learn about commercial arbitration as a means of settling commercial disputes especially amid the great development Qatar achieved in this field.

He also delivered a briefing on Qicca’s inception and development, as well as an overview of commercial arbitration, its phases, conditions, and the legislative frame of arbitration in Qatar.

Al-Awlan delivered a presentation on the competence and tasks of the Research and Studies Department, which include preparing economic researches and studies, holding seminars and conferences, and preparing economic newsletters, as well as conducting questionnaires and studying economic trends.

Rashad, on the other hand, discussed certificates of origin, its different types, rules of issuance and its importance for trade, as well as offering models of certificates issued by the chamber and how they are issued.

Sharief also discussed the chamber’s membership, its conditions, and procedures, as well as classifying members according to their commercial activities. He also talked about the chamber’s attestation on commercial documents without violating commercial usage.
