The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME)'s Agriculture Affairs Department has signed three contracts for the supply and instalment of some components of greenhouses.

These pertain to the normal, cooled and hydroponic types of greenhouses, the MME has said in a statement.

The contracts were signed with NAAAS Agricultural Consulting & Greenhouse and Al Afaq Nursery as part of the seventh Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition (AgriteQ 2019).

The contracts were inked by Yousef Khalid al-Khelaifi, director of the Agriculture Affairs Department, on behalf of the MME.

The first contract with NAAAS entails the supply and instalment of the components of air-conditioned hydroponic greenhouses and delivering them to the targeted farms through the MME. The contract is valued at QR3.365mn and valid for a one-year period.

It includes the instalment of 100 such greenhouses in some 50 targeted farms with a limit of two greenhouses per farm of 'A' classification.

The second contract was signed with Al Afaq Nursery to supply and instal the components air-conditioned greenhouses in the targeted farms through the MME with a total value of the contract amounting to QR 36.65mn for one year. The project entails the instalment of 1,666 air-conditioned greenhouses in 342 targeted farms with an upper limit of five of these in each farm classified 'A' and four in each farm classified 'B'.

The third contract was also signed with Al Afaq to supply and instal the components of normal greenhouses for the targeted farms through the ministry at a cost of QR15.49mn. It is valid for a year and includes the instalment of 1,712 greenhouses in 802 targeted farms, with an upper limit of two for 'A' classified farms, one for 'B', two for 'C' and two for 'D' classified farms.

These projects aim to support registered farms in the country with various types of greenhouses to increase local agricultural production by using the latest technological methods in order to overcome adverse climatic conditions, the statement adds.
