Qatar does not mix sports with politics, Vice-chairman of Camel Racing Organising Committee, Abdullah al-Kuwari stressed Saturday, highlighting the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to host all GCC citizens in the events of the committee in Qatar.
Speaking at a press conference on the sidelines of the annual camel racing festival for the sword of His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, he said that the committee welcomes all guests and all the brothers from the GCC states who are keen to take part in events held in Doha every year.
He congratulated Saudi citizen Batshan Saleh al-Yammi who won the main event of the morning session yesterday. He also thanked other owners who won on the first day of the festival. Al-Kuwari also said that the festival is considered one of the most important camel-racing events in the GCC, something that motivates all participants to give their best.
Al-Kuwari revealed in his concluding statement that Qatar will build a new, world-class camel racing track. He added that the move was thanks to the support and directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. He said the goal of building a new track will be to ease the pressure off the Al Shahaniya track.
For his part, director of the organising committee, Mubarak al-Nuaimi, expressed his happiness at the strong start the festival has had this year. He noted that the organising committee was keen this year to raise the prize money, by increasing the number of races.
