The Translation and Interpreting Institute (TII), part of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), has opened registration for its 10th Annual International Translation Conference, to be held from March 26 to 27 at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC).
This year’s conference will explore the theme Translation Beyond the Margins, and will feature presentations by leading experts and practitioners in the fields of translation, interpreting, media, literature, and journalism.
Dr Amal al-Malki, the founding dean of the CHSS, who will deliver the opening address at the event, said: “This year marks the 10th consecutive year that the TII has hosted its conference, one that attracts academics, researchers, and practitioners across numerous branches of translation studies.”
“We invite those with an interest in translation studies to register to attend the event, and they can look forward to an enriching and rewarding experience that will offer insights into the current developments in the field, and how individuals, organisations and countries are implementing these advancements as they specifically pertain to their translation requirements,” she said.
The 10th TII conference will welcome more than 40 speakers from 16 countries: Belgium, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Brazil, Poland, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Canada, Algeria, Morocco, South Korea, South Africa, and Slovakia.
Rytis Martikonis, director-general for translation at the European Commission, is set to deliver a talk on the topic of “Multilingualism in Europe: universities, professional training, and the civil service” during the Sparking the Discussion opening panel, to be chaired by Dr Joselia Neves, a professor at the TII.
Throughout the two-day event, attendees will participate in a number of panel discussions and workshops.
