Doha Municipality on Sunday opened an art exhibition and a children's drawing competition under the theme 'Together for a beautiful city'.
The event is aimed at enhancing the creativity of children and encourage them to adopt a positive attitude towards maintaining a healthy and clean environment. It also seeks to promote awareness through art and direct children towards food safety and nutrition.
Organised by the Municipal Control Department, the event was inaugurated by Doha Municipality director Jamal Matar al-Nuaimi Sunday morning.
In a statement, al-Nuaimi said the organisation of such events was in line with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment's (MME) role in spreading health and environmental awareness among members of the society in general and schoolchildren in particular, the official Qatar News Agency reported.

He said this is the 18th edition of the event, and emphasis will be on the introduction of hygiene-related rules in order to maintain a clean environment. Also in focus will be the scientific aspects and basic principles of food safety rules as well as their implications for public health, he noted, adding that the MME is fully aware of the importance of learning through drawing as it is a universal language common to children around the world.
Some 80 schools are taking part in the event, which continues until March 14, and the competition will be held from 9am until 1pm every day.
The exhibition and competition is considered an innovative platform to teach children the importance of having a clean and healthy environment and how to keep it in the best shape possible. Accordingly, 40 paintings will be on display highlighting the theme of the event - accompanied by phrases in Arabic and English on the relevant violations stipulated by Law No 18 of 2017 on public hygiene. Prizes will be given for the best drawings and paintings.
