More rain is expected in the country until Sunday, February 17, the weather forecast shows.

Also, strong northwesterly winds are likely to start affecting Qatar on Sunday, leading to high waves offshore and a drop in temperature, it adds.

In a detailed report on Thursday, the Qatar Met department said “weather charts indicate that the country’s skies may be affected by a state of instability due to an extension of a low-pressure system over the region” from Friday until February 17.

The cloud amount is likely to increase gradually on Friday with a chance of scattered light rain, the report says. The possibility of rain is expected to improve on Saturday and Sunday with conditions being favourable for scattered rain of variable intensity – which may become thundery at times in some areas.

Then, northwesterly fresh to strong winds are expected to affect the country on Sunday, causing high waves measuring 8-12ft in all areas as well as a drop in temperature, with cold conditions likely at night and early in the morning.

The Met department has urged people to be careful during thundershowers, which are usually accompanied by sudden strong winds, and also avoid going to sea from Saturday until Monday (February 18) in view of the expected conditions. The weather office has also advised people to follow latest updates through its social media accounts.

Meanwhile, today’s detailed forecast says moderate conditions will prevail during the day along with some clouds at times, and there is a chance of rain in some places by night.

Offshore areas, too, will see cloudy conditions and there is a possibility of scattered rain towards the north by night.
