National carrier Qatar Airways hosted an enjoyable and exciting celebration of National Sport Day on Tuesday, with a variety of activities for staff members and their families from the group and its subsidiaries.

The event at the new Oryx International School Campus included football, volleyball, basketball, cricket, cycling, aerobics, and yoga, as well as a kids’ activity station featuring mini-football games and sack races, where friendly competitions took place.

There was a health check booth with consultants to administer blood pressure and BMI (body mass index) checkups.

Qatar Airways Group chief executive HE Akbar al-Baker said: “Qatar National Sport Day reflects the vision of our country’s wise leadership for building individuals and society.

“Its key message is that sports should be a part of the culture and life of individuals and society, and is an important aspect of our nation’s investment in human development.”

“We are encouraging Qatar Airways staff and other members of the community to incorporate healthy lifestyles and habits, and helping foster a healthy and energetic way of living in Qatar,” he added. “Conveying pride in Qatar is one of our highest corporate values, and we show pride in Qatar by taking part in fulfilling its vision.”

Qatar football team champions from Al-Sadd SC – Akram Afif, Tarek Salman, and Salem al-Hajri – joined Qatar Airways staff and families in the celebration and played a mini football match.

Al-Sadd SC general manager Turki al-Ali said: “We are so pleased to participate in Qatar Airways Group's celebration of National Sport Day. We hope that our players' engagement with children and families inspires them to be active and to adopt a healthy lifestyle.”

This year’s National Sport Day comes following the historic win of Qatar’s national team at the 2019 AFC Asian Cup earlier this month.

The victory marks an incredible milestone for Qatar’s national team, as it is the first time the team has ever won the AFC Asian Cup.

As the country’s national carrier, Qatar Airways continues to play a vital role in enhancing the already-flourishing sports activity in Qatar, through its sponsorship of events in Doha, such as the ExxonMobil Tennis tournament, the Total Women’s Tennis tournament, and the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters Golf Championship.

Qatar Airways is proud to sponsor premier sporting clubs around the world.

The airline recently revealed multi-year sponsorship agreements with several global sports entities, including leading German football team FC Bayern München AG, Italian football club AS Roma, and Argentinian club Boca Juniors.

In addition, Qatar Airways is the official airline sponsor of CONMEBOL professional football competitions across South America, including the Copa CONMEBOL Libertadores, the Copa CONMEBOL Sudamericana, and the CONMEBOL Recopa.

In May 2017, Qatar Airways announced a groundbreaking sponsorship deal with FIFA, which saw the award-winning airline become the Official Partner and Official Airline of FIFA until 2022.

The partnership, one of the biggest sporting sponsorships in the world, will give Qatar Airways extensive marketing and branding rights at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.

The agreement also sees Qatar Airways become the Official Airline Partner of the 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 editions of the FIFA Club World Cup, the FIFA U-20 World Cup, the FIFA U-17 World Cup, the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, the FIFA eWorld Cup, and the FIFA Women’s World Cup, taking place in France this summer.
