The Court of Appeal upheld the verdict of the Criminal Court to sentence two Asian men to five years in prison and impose a fine of QR200,000 after being convicted of involvement in the illicit drug trade, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported recently.
The court also ordered their deportation after serving the prison sentence.
The matter came to light after the security department concerned got information that an Asian expatriate was selling marijuana. Accordingly, an undercover policeman approached him and was given a sum of QR9,000 by the department to "buy" a certain quantity of the contraband from the suspect, the Arrayah report said.
Then, at the stipulated time and place, one of the two Asian men met the undercover officer and took him to a place where the drugs were hidden. His accomplice also joined them.
When the two men took out the drugs from a hole and "delivered" it to the policeman on receiving the agreed sum, police patrols arrested the culprits red-handed and took the necessary legal procedures against them, the report added.
