The Orphan Care Centre ‘Dreama’, in co-operation with the Geneva Institute for Human Rights (GIHR), organised a training workshop to provide technical support and develop capacities of the orphanage centre in the field of the rights of orphaned children and foster families.
The workshop, which was held recently, targeted specialists and service and care providers at the Dreama Centre in order to raise their competence and awareness of the rights of orphaned children and those who have been deprived of their family environment.
The workshop addressed the rights of orphaned children and foster families from a number of pivots, including the progressive realisation of the rights of children, the connection between the needs of children and the concept of children’s rights with international texts that support their rights and the protection of children under the international human rights and humanitarian law.
Executive Director of Dreama, Mariam bint Ali bin Nasser al-Misnad said that the workshop is part of the centre’s efforts to improve the services it provides to the orphaned child and to train the staff on the best methods of care and psychological support provided for orphans and other vulnerable children and their families.
For his part, Executive Director of the Geneva Institute for Human Rights Dr Nizar Abdelkader stressed the importance of this co-operation in enhancing the status and empowerment of orphans. – QNA
