Katara – the Cultural Village is preparing to launch the 8th edition of the Halal (Livestock) Festival from February 2 to 10 to preserve Qatar’s traditional heritage, norms and culture.
This year’s edition consists of an array of different activities all related to the main role of the festival, aimed at teaching people more about the livestock sector in the country.
“The festival forms a flagship platform for livestock breeders to learn about the best practices in this profession and exchange expertise,” Katara general manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti said in a statement.
The festival is one of the largest in Qatar and the region, and specialises in the field of livestock heritage, aims to reflect the authentic atmosphere of the life of ancestors in the Gulf and to educate the young generation.
The festival also features a livestock auction on the best breeds of goats and sheep, which brings in more varieties for breeders to improve their production.
As part of its commitment to raise awareness among the youth on Halal, Katara invited schools to visit the festival every morning.
More than 30 stalls will offer dairy, other livestock products and local food items to enhance the “traditional ambience” of the festival.
The festival also consists of traditional handicrafts used by professionals who will explain to visitors their importance especially in the old days “in a bid to revive this abandoned type of art.”
Camel and horse rides and a children’s playground will serve as additional attractions at the festival.
