Saeed al-Sulaiti and Jassim al-Thani emerged triumphant in the second round of the Qatar Supertock 600 at the Losail International Circuit.
In the first race, al-Sulaiti led from pole to checkered flag for a comfortable win. The defending champions clocked a total time of 23:13.147 to complete the 12 laps, with Abdulla al-Qubaisi finishing second and Mishal al-Naimi third. Nasser al-Malki and Balint Kovacs finished fourth and fifth respectively.
In the second race of the day, al-Sulaiti won again, with al-Naimi taking the second spot ahead of Abdulla al-Qubaisi. Al-Sulaiti said: “In race one, Mishal was very close to me and I tried to create a gap and pushed hard at the beginning of the race. In race 2, I employed the same strategy and overtook Mishal at the beginning of the second lap in the main straight. In the last four laps, I burnt the clutch and it was really difficult to go back in gears but the gap was safe.”
After two rounds, al-Sulaiti leads the championship with 100 points, while al-Naimi is second with 72. Al-Qubaisi is third with 69, ahead of Hungarian rider Kovacs in fourth with 55 points.
In the QSTK Trophy category, Jassim al-Thani came out on top, ahead of Kuwaiti Mohamed al-Zaidan and Hassan al-Mansoori. The top three was also the same in the second race.“This win came after a long and hard training for the off season. I did my personal best lap time of 2:07.6 secs, which is really good,” said al-Thani, who lead the standing with100 points.
Trophies were presented by QMMF president Abdulrahmam al-Mannai and LCSC Vice President and General Manager Khalid al-Remaihi. The third round of Qatar Superstock Championship will be held on January 25 and 26.
