Ethan Bennett of Great Britain clocked 1:01:56s to win the second leg of the Qatar National Triathlon (QNT) Series on Saturday.
At Al Ghariya Resort, Bennett of Doha Tri Club defeated his teammate Aday Alvarez of Spain (1:02:23) in the final two kilometres of the five-km run to register his second win in the men’s category. Triclub Doha’s Bernard McCullagh (1:05:41) was third.
Bennett, who won the Katara Triathlon, the first leg of the series, leads the series after two rounds with 250 points. Alvarez is in second spot with 248.16 points.
The open women’s category was also dominated by Triclub Doha as Spain’s Isora Sosa Caballero, South Africa’s Toni Snoxel and Greta Britain’s Daniela Sposi finished first, second and third respectively.
Great Britain’s Lee Bennett won the veteran men’s category. Argentina’s Enzo Fascinato was second and Francs’ Christophe Leuranguer third.
Finnish athlete Pia Sundstedt maintained her lead in the women’s veteran category as she won the leg ahead of Great Britain’s Julie Melville and Ecuador’s Andrea Stadler.
Mubarak Alajji emerged the fastest of the Qatari athletes followed by Abdulla Shaheen al-Kaabi and Abdulrahman al-Jaber.
Prof Nasser al-Mohannadi won the Qatari men’s veteran category, while Fatma Issa won the Qatari women section. President of Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation Dr Mohamed al-Kuwari also took part in the race. The other three legs will held at the MIA Park on February 8, Lusail on March 22 and Pearl-Qatar on April 19.
