HE the Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs Yousef bin Mohamed al-Othman Fakhro presided over an event held on the sidelines of the “Intergovernmental Conference to Adopt the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration”, which concluded in Marrakesh, Morocco, yesterday.
The minister delivered a speech in which he emphasised national commitment, regional co-operation and global partnerships for safe and orderly migration.
He also reviewed Qatar’s experience as a model for co-operation and partnership between states and stakeholders that could effectively work towards the principles and objectives of safe and orderly migration and the United Nations Plan for Sustainable Development 2030.
Representatives of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the Asia Migrants Forum, as well as representatives of governments, labour organisations, civil society organisations, experts and researchers interested in migration issues, participated in the event.
On the sidelines of the conference, HE the minister held a number of meetings, where he met with ILO Director-General Guy Ryder, Director General of the International Organisation for Migration Antonio Vitorino, Minister delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of Moroccans living abroad and Migration Affairs in the Kingdom of Morocco Dr Abdelkrim Benatiq, and Nepal’s Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Gokarna Bista.
