Qatar Charity (QC) has signed a co-operation protocol in Ankara with the Turkiye Diyanet Foundation of the Presidency of Religious Affairs to distribute copies of Mushaf Basirah (Braille Qur’an) to the blind in Turkey.
The signing of the protocol came in conjunction with the International Day of Disabled Persons, which falls on December 3.
The project comes as a part of Qatar Charity's efforts to promote joint work to serve people with special needs and integrate them into their societies so that they can exercise their role in life, QC has said in a statement.

Mushaf Basirah consists of an index printed in Braille with an electronic pen that helps blind people read the Holy Qur’an easily.

At the ceremony, which was attended by Omar Hassan al-Hill, second secretary at the Qatar embassy in Turkey, Diyanet Foundation director-general Mohamed Swash Bulat thanked Qatari donors and QC for their efforts made in the humanitarian and development work in Turkey and Syria.
He noted that Mushaf Basirah opened a new window for the blind and would help them overcome many difficulties that they faced in the education process.
Mohamed Wahi, regional director of QC in Turkey, said Mushaf Basirah has been translated into several languages, including English, French, Russian, Indonesian, Malay and some others, and distributed in 12 countries since the launch of the project in 2015.
He also thanked the people in Qatar for their contributions to the project as well as the officials at the Diyanet Foundation for their efforts in providing high-quality educational and audio materials to Turkish readers, in addition to offering some technical support to produce the product in a pure Turkish version.
After the inauguration ceremony, the attendees went to Kâni Karaca School for the Blind in Ankara, where 70 copies of the Braille Qur’an were distributed to the students.
The project covers Ankara and Istanbul now and the distribution process in schools of the Diyanet Foundation located in other Turkish provinces and cities will be accomplished over the next two months, the statement adds. The project is expected to benefit, at this stage, around 1,000 blind people in Turkey.
Mushaf Basirah is lightweight and easy to carry, and helps the blind read and memorise the Holy Qur’an. It enables blind people to listen to the verses of the Holy Qur’an, repeat them and choose a specific reciter as desired.
Mushaf Basirah consists of an index printed in Braille with an electronic pen that helps blind people read the Holy Qur’an easily. The product also enables the blind to know the meanings in the Turkish language. It also has the option to easily go to the intended verses and chapters, in addition to supplications.
Qatar Charity, in collaboration with a Malaysian company, has produced Mushaf Basirah for the blind to help them read the Qur’an easily.
