Qatar Media Corporation (QMC) has launched a new application programme (app) for smart devices - QMC Now.

The app is available in the App Store for iOS devices.

The QMC Now app includes the live streaming and transmission schedules and programme details for the following television channels and radio channels: Qatar Television, Alkass Television, Qatar Radio, Quran Radio, Urdu Radio, QBS Radio, Sout Al Khaleej Radio, 88FM Sout Al Khaleej and Oryx Radio.

Available for free, the app requires "iOS version 11.4 or later, and is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch".

QMC is the official broadcasting authority for Qatar. Established in 2009 to oversee media services across different TV and radio channels, it "vigorously pursues the latest developments in media updates and technologies with media content that accommodates development and preserves the culture and identity of the State and its community".

Launched in 1970, Qatar Television is a national TV channel that broadcasts various programmes, including news, economy-related bulletins, documentaries, religious programmes and entertainment shows.

Alkass is a group of eight sport channels broadcast 24/7 from Qatar. It was launched in June 2006 as the second sport channel from Qatar after the then Al Jazeera Sports.

Qatar Radio is the national radio station of the country. In 1965, Qatar's first radio station was created. It was broadcast on Fridays and relayed the Qur'an, religious programmes and news. This paved the way for the official formation of Qatar Radio on June 25 , 1968. Transmission hours were gradually increased over the years, with Qatar Radio beginning non-stop transmission in 2002.

Sout Al Khaleej was launched on February 2, 2002 with a vision to provide prominence to GCC music and show its deep historical roots and spread it among all Arab listeners. It further documents the progress of the GCC music and its distinctive features throughout its various stages of development.
