A GCC strategy for vocational training will be introduced soon, a top official at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education disclosed on Monday.
“Qatar and GCC are very much interested in vocational training development. At a very recent GCC meeting in Kuwait, we have formed a GCC strategy for vocational training. It needs to be reviewed one more time before implementation and will be launched thereafter,” said Dr Khalid al-Ali, assistant undersecretary for education and director, Higher Education Institutions Affairs.
Dr al-Ali was speaking to the media on the sidelines of the official opening of City College, one of the newest vocational training colleges in Qatar offering business programmes.
“The Gulf countries are keen to have a very good vocational education as the market needs highly skilled professionals. We are trying hard to prepare such skilled workers for the market in Qatar. We have several such schools including City College and College of North Atlantic Qatar. These colleges will help in developing a large number of trained professionals in several areas,” explained Dr al-Ali.
He also highlighted the unique features of vocational learning encouraging private investors in Qatar to contribute to the quality and diversity of higher education in the country.
The official also said that there are a number of new applications for setting up vocational training colleges in Qatar.
“We do have several files for such colleges, for example a German University file is on our desk to review and there are several more for consideration. We plan to expand the vocational training programme with many more institutes. This is an area we need to expand and attract more students to meet the demand of the country based on our vision,’ added Dr al-Ali.
